IN THE WORLD OF RUNNING, RUNNERS ARE DRIVEN BY 2 OBJECTIVES - A
POWERFUL, OBSESSION-WORTHY GOAL, OR AN INTEREST IN THE MIND-BODY BLISS
THAT RUNNING (WHEN DONE RIGHT) OFFERS. SIMPLY HAVING A GOAL, AND WORKING
TOWARDS IT WITHOUT ENDLESS ITERATIONS CAN HAVE POSITIVE EFFECTS ON YOUR
LIFE AND HEALTH, FAR BEYOND WHAT YOU CAN SEE. WE HAVE OFTEN HEARD
STORIES OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE RISEN FROM THE DEPTHS OF DESPAIR,
INJURY, WEAKNESS, ILLNESS, OR ADDICTION BY INCORPORATING REGULAR RUNNING
INTO THEIR LIVES. HOW MOTIVATING ARE THESE STORIES AND HOW THEY HELP

HIM TO TAKE UP RUNNING.

UP THOSE SNEAKERS AND RUN, LITERALLY RUN, FOR YOUR LIFE! WHAT CAN YOU
DO, STARTING TODAY, THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
I am from Chennai and settled in Hyderabad from past 20 years.. in that
sense, I am a "true Hyderabadi". I was less than 65 Kgs and used play
Hockey during my college days. Post-2000, Health and fitness took back
seat and laziness took priority. Between 2000-2014, I have seen very few
Sun Rises, wake up only after 8 am and late night dinners. The result I
crossed the hallmark of 100Kgs.
In 2014, One day when I was playing with my son I realized,
accidentally, that I couldn’t cope with my son’s speed and I was
panting for my breath. The moment I realized that I am not able to play
with my son and that is not a great situation is when I decided to take
up running. Initially, I couldn’t run even ten seconds, but the good
thing about running every day is that you can see progress. You run ten
seconds the first day, then 11 seconds the next day, 50 meters then 60
meters the next day and you can see the results immediately, and that
kept me motivated. I did not realize I started running 5k. I would
initially run, walk, run walk. I realized this is one hobby that did not
require an external motivation – when working out in a gym or dieting,
I had to push myself, but this did not require any pushing. I had more
and more interest in running. I saw there was improvement every day and
that gave me a kick, and that was positive – many good feelings and
thoughts started coming in.
MANY OF MY FRIENDS THOUGHT I WILL QUIT JUST AS I DID WITH GYM/YOGA..IT
HAS BEEN 3 YEARS NOW AND I AM GLAD RUNNING HAS BECOME PART OF MY DNA.
THE BEAUTY OF RUNNING IS THAT YOU GET TO KNOW SO MANY NEW PEOPLE, NEW
PLACES, NEW PERSPECTIVES AND START LIVING REAL LIFE. SINCE I TOOK UP
RUNNING, VERY FEW DAYS I MISSED THE SUN RISE AND IT'S ALWAYS
BEAUTIFUL. MY WORK TAKES ME TO TRAVEL TO ASEA, EUROPE AND I MAKE SURE TO
RUN EACH AND EVERY CITY I VISIT AND EXPLORE THE NEW STREETS UNDERSTAND
THE PEOPLE AND CULTURE.
My first run was Half Marathon in Airtel Hyderabad Marathon 2015 that I
finished in 3.5 hrs. Since then I ran Bengaluru Half marathon, Airtel
Delhi Half Marathon, Spice Coast Half Marathon,SCMM Half Marathon during
the year 2015-2016 and Completed Airtel Hyderabad Marathon 2016 and
2017. Over the last 2 years, I have improved my timings consistently and
finished AHM 2017 in 2:51:25.
I ran my first full marathon in SCMM 2017 and finished in respectable
6:29:10. It was fulfilling experience and reinforced my love towards
I was the pacer of 90 mins bus during Hyderabad Club Run 2017 for the
10Km run. I made so many new friends and encouraged them to finish. It
was a great happiness to see many people whom I helped on that day, took
up running and keep in touch with me.
Over the last 2 years, many of my friends started running because of the
motivation I gave and it was more fulfilling than the actual run itself
Family & Work:
I am blessed to have a fantastic family who supports me in my running
schedule. Married to Sandhya who keeps telling me "I can do anything
when I set my mind". She wakes up with me early morning to give pre-run
meal and sacrifices her sleep. Two smart and naughty sons (Akshaj and
Aaryav) who make sure that they wear the medals I get during the run. My
family also enjoys running and they ran Airtel Hyderabad Marathon 5K for
the last 2 years.
I am the CEO, Business Consulting & Technology Services company
"nicheBees" ,I cofounded with 3 of my college buddies 8 years ago. We
work with some of the brightest minds in our company and I attribute our
success to them.
I enjoy watching movies especially World War Collection, Political and
Business Thrillers. Spending time with Friends I enjoy a lot.
My goal is to be able to run and be healthy even at the age of
70/80/100. My short-term goal is to run Airtel Hyderabad Marathon - Full
Marathon, the toughest route in India. Inspire at least 5 people to take
up running as part of their life to become healthy.
HR means to me:
I believe anyone who wants to run needs a peer group as they are the
biggest motivation. I would like to attribute my running success to
Hyderabad Runners – you motivated me and taught me tips and tricks; HR
encourages to run no matter whether you are slow or a pro. Peer
encouragement is very contagious, and it helped me come out the struggle
phase. For anyone who wants to run, you might be able to alone till a
point of time, but if you want to run regularly and faster, a peer group
is very important. Running is not an individual sport or hobby, in my
experience, It is a team sport because when you are running, you’re
not alone. – that’s what I feel running is.
Over the last 3 years my network of friends increased to more than 300,
thanks to Hyderabad runners.
Hyderabad runners taught me Positive Motivation, Encouragement,
Commitment, Selflessness and Enjoying the present moment.
My favorite running Line:
Understanding self is first step to be the leader and once you
understand yourselves, it will be easy to understand and lead others. My
